VISION

FLETATIS is the research group dealing with Foreign Language Education through Applied Technologies and Intercultural Sensitivity at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). It belongs to the research area of Arts and Humanities and the UNESCO Research Field 5701. Applied Linguistics. The research carried out by the group members focuses on two main research areas: one dealing with Intercultural communicative competence in the foreign language classroom (Richard Clouet) and the other centred on  Languages, ubiquitous knowledge and international communication (Soraya García-Sánchez).

Lead researcher: CLOUET, RICHARD

This research deals with the development of global knowledge acquisition and the enhancement of 21st century communicative skills in English as a Foreign or International Language (EFL/ELF) through ubiquitous learning environments (ULE, u-learning) that occur anywhere and at any time. Through the use of ubiquitous mobile devices (m-learning) and digital information that can be accessed inside and outside the classroom, a contextualized ULE is designed in order to respond to the real and professional needs of higher education students. U-learning is supported by the adequate use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Open Access resources (OA), collaborative learning, independent learning and the combination of formal and informal learning to allow lifelong learners to generate multimedia knowledge and to debate, build and enhance their linguistic and communicative skills in the foreign language throughout their experiences (u-learner). This approach pursues the adaptation of the university student to the changing context of a 21st century professional citizen.

Richard Clouet

(PhD) is Associate Professor at the Department of Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Susan Cranfield

(PhD) has been teaching English Language and Introduction to Specialised Translation at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for more than 25 years.

Leticia Fidalgo

(PhD) is Associate Professor at the School of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) since 2007.

Soraya García

(PhD) is Associate Professor at the Department of Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Helena Luezas

is a lecturer, currently writing her PhD on the management of cultural dimensions in interpreting at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Daniela Cecic

(PhD) is currently a lecturer at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where she completed her PhD in teaching and learning foreign languages.

Teresa Morell

(PhD) has a PhD in Applied Linguistics and is Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Alicante.

Christina Giannikas

(PhD) holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics and TESOL. She is a staff member and special scientist at the Cyprus University of Technology.

Bianca Manuela

has been teaching English as a foreign language, English for specific purposes and English culture courses since 2017
